Disaster Designs Frida Kahlo - Photo Pouch
Mexican artist Frida Kahlo is remembered for her self-portraits, pain and passion, and bold, vibrant colours. Frida had a lot of suffering in her life with a back story that includes childhood polio, a tumultuous love life, a tragic accident that left her with severe pain and disability. Inspired by the country's popular culture, she employed a naïve folk-art style to explore questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class and race in Mexican society.
This colourful pouch features a photographic print of Frida against a colourful, green background with contrasting black, floral panels which are in the Mexican artistic style that Kahlo was known for. The headpiece incorporated in the portrait of Kahlo contains dahlias, the national flower of Mexico, again pointing to her Mexican heritage that she was incredibly proud of.
Embellished with sequins, beads and a green trim, this pouch has a bold, bright pink design on the reverse. On this contrasting background is Frida Kahlo’s name in a bright, yellow cursive font below an arrangement of red and yellow flowers and leaves. This pouch is finished with a pink pom-pom and bead charm on the detachable wrist strap
