Wren - Take Flight & Write

Writing Instrument of the Year 2025, Stationery Awards, London

A beautiful and infinitely refillable writing pen, equipped with a Japanese-made writing tip.

Each year, an estimated 9 billion pens are thrown away, contributing to growing environmental waste. Many writing tools are designed with convenience in mind, often leading to a cycle of frequent replacements, which generates significant waste and limits options for those seeking more sustainable, long-lasting choices.

As a product designer and craftsman who loves writing, I became frustrated with the waste created by disposable pens. They would pile up in drawers, waiting for a specific refill, or worse, end up in the bin despite being perfectly usable – if only they had ink.

After years of designing and handcrafting calligraphy and fountain pens for creatives worldwide, I decided it was time to tackle one of the biggest culprits: the everyday writing pen. The result? The Wren – a pen designed not only to write beautifully but also to last a lifetime, helping to reduce the mountains of waste created by disposable pens.

Good to Know

What ink can I use?
The Wren is compatible with all standard Fountain Pen Inks. Please note the Wren is not suitable for use with Shimmer Fountain Pen Inks, No.60 Pigment Black Ink or Calligraphy Inks.

Some ink colours can concentrate in the tip, so you may experience a lighter colour after a line or two. This is completely normal and looks quite nice!

How long will the tips/ink last?
You can expect the high-quality, Japanese-made tip to last for months of use. We tested a single ink fill in the Wren on a plotter – a device used for precision drawing – and it wrote consistently for 344 metres. That's the equivalent of 50 A4 pages of handwriting!

When the tip eventually dulls, you can find packs of three replacement tips.

Anything else I should know?
Yes! I’ve designed the pen to include ‘micro-grooves’, tiny ridges that enhance grip without using plastics. Please note: the black and midnight colourways do not feature these micro-grooves, as they have a grippy matte finish.
